122m2 Commercial Extension Floor Screed in Solihull

Rapidy-expanding demolition and strip-out company, Umberslade, booked Screed Works to lay the screed on their newly installed mezzanine floor in a farm building. It was a farm building which just happened to house sheep and lambs, which was a first for us!

With no urgency for a rapid drying screed we were able help keep the costs down by using ordinary portland cement in the screed mix. With the lambs kept safely out of the way of our screed pump hose were able to complete the entire job in less than four hours.

The screeded area is undercover but will still be open to the elements for the entire drying time of the screed. As such, the drying process is likely to take slightly longer than usual. See our notes on OPC-based screed drying times below.

When your project isn't on a tight schedule, you can save money with a standard screed mix of ordinary portland cement (OPC) and sharp sand.

It's important to understand the drying time though. As a rule of thumb, you will need to wait 1 day per mm depth of screed for the first 50mm, and then 1 day per 0.5mm for anything over 50mm. So a 75mm screed will take 100 days to dry in ideal conditions.

Having no previous knowledge about screeding, when I reached out to Screed Works I found them knowledgable, helpful and friendly.

The entire process was quick and easy and the job went smoothly.
